Tenerife Fiestas in June

Corpus Christi La Orotava 2008On the 8th day of Corpus Christi in La Orotava in Tenerife, the town celebrates it’s annual Día de las Alfombras (Carpet Day), where carpets made of sand and of plant materials are made throughout the streets of the old quarter, as well as a huge carpet of sands from the Teide National Park covering the square in front of the town hall, which achieved a Guinness World Record in 2007, because of his size. Dates for the Día de las Alfombras, all of which are in June, through to 2022.

Following on from that, on the weekend following Carpet Day, La Orotava celebrates the largest of the annual folk fiestas, the Romería de San Isidro Labrador.

On June 21st, you can celebrate summer solstice at the Güímar Pyramids.

On June 22nd all the public water fountains in Puerto de la Cruz are decorated.

Spend the night of San Juan, June 23rd, at Playa Jardín, Puerto de la Cruz, by the light of the bonfires. Read more about June’s high days and magic nights.

And on the morning of Midsummer’s Day, June 24th, whether you wake up with a hangover or not, things get even weirder with the annual baño de las cabras (goat dipping), which kicks off in Puerto de la Cruz harbour from 8 am.
