Tenerife gets vege box scheme

imageConsumers in the UK will be already familiar with vegetable box schemes, such as those provided by firms such as Riverford. Now Tenerife has its own equivalent with a new company launched today, Naturpac, supplying first-class, natural, fresh Canarian products, straight “from the farm to your table.”

All of the producers involved in the Naturpac project offer the maximum standards of quality and use sustainable agricultural practices, respectful of the environment, which benefit the maintenance of agricultural diversity in the Canary Islands.

Servicing the metropolitan area (Santa Cruz - La Laguna -Tegueste - El Rosario-Candelaria) only at the moment, they supply a regularly changing, seasonal selection in the familiar weekly box configurations; Box A contains a selection of both fruit and vegetables, whilst Box B contains just a selection of vegetables.

Either box costs 18 euros, package and delivery included. Customers who order a box can also add a 5 kilo net of potatoes for another 6 euros (not sold on their own.)

They accept orders by phone or online and payment is COD, either in cash or card.

If this catches on, I’m sure the service will grow, as such services will provide an important means for smallholders to get their products to the consumer.
