Mammoth, worldwide petition could ruin Repsol oil-drill plan

SOME 200,000 people have now signed an online petition to try to halt the controversial search for oil in Canary Island waters.

The petition was presented to Repsol's Madrid head offices on Tuesday) by representatives from Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, Ecologists in Action, SEO/Birdlife and the WWF.

It contains signatures from people in 183 countries, all of whom are calling for a halt to Repsol's search for oil off the Canaries.
