Midsummer calima returns on schedule to push temperatures up to around 40º tomorrow

The first heatwave of summer proper is here with the arrival of a calima which will see temperatures in excess of 30º today, and approaching 40º tomorrow, particularly in the medianías. Meteorologists say that as normal at this time of year, the Azores anticyclone is responsible, bringing hot air from the African continent, and the length of the heatwave depends on how the two weather systems interact – the Canaries are caught in the middle.
