It’s sales time, and traders bank on the big-spenders!

THE Sales season began this week, with high hopes that shoppers will continue to empty their pockets for bargains.

Recent sales’ periods have picked up, and traders expect to see a further increase in spending – but not necessarily by the island’s residents.

Gustavo Matos, Trade secretary of the Canary Islands’ Government, anticipates that foreign visitors will be more responsible for bumping-up sales figures than the slow exit from the recession.
