Los Gigantes Carnaval Programme 2015

Los Gigantes Carnaval events began yesterday and also yesterday, for the first time, I got sight of the carnaval poster and programme to confirm what we had previously speculated. (I won't comment on Tenerife's idea of "advance notice" again. It's too despairing.) "Space" (as if you couldn't tell from the cute little rocket) is the theme of this year's carnival.

Last night, February 27th, Los Gigantes held their Gala for the Election of the Carnaval Queen 2015. Today, February 28th, is Día del Niño (Kid's Day) with workshops and the obligatory bouncy castles, with a Kid's Gala being held from 5pm. There's dancing to various bands for the adults from 9pm.

Sunday, March 1st, from 5pm is the Gran Coso Apoteósico del Carnaval de Los Gigantes 2015 (their main parade), which this year has several well-known troupes taking part. I certainly recognise the names of Comparsa Bahía Bahitiare, Comparsa Los Rumberos and Comparsa Joroperos from Santa Cruz carnaval (and the TV galas), so the standard is going to be very high.

Should be well worth getting to see this parade.

Then on Monday, March 2nd, from 9pm, is the carnaval's end with the Entierro de la Sardina (Burial of the Sardine), and all it's mournful, wailing widows (in drag.) The cremation of the sardine will be followed by a spectacular fireworks display.

Both nights again culminate in the usual street party with dancing to salsa orchestras.

All events are liable to change beyond our control.
