Earth Hour

Tomorrow, Saturday 28th March, between 8:30pm and 9:30pm, is Earth Hour, a worldwide movement for the planet organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

You can stay at home and turn off all your non-essential lights for an hour (a very good thing to do, by the way), or you can pop along to Garachico, where Earth Hour celebrations are beig held as part of preparations for International Environmental Film Festival Canarias

There will be an afternoon of activities related to the environment and sport. From 4pm until 6pm in the Glorieta de San Fransisco, you can watch the sun thanks to the Museum of Science and the Cosmos' solar telescope. Anyone who wishes may see the sun's surface with its sunspots and solar flares

That's followed by story competition where students from 6th grade of Garachico schools describe experience with the environment and what it means for them. Then, you can enjoy 'lively FICMEC' with the screening of various short films of the International Environmental Film Festival Canarias.

The Garachico Earth Hour celebrations reach their climax at 8:30pm, when the lights in the main streets of Garachico, and all residents who want to collaborate and join the initiative, will go out.

Also, the start of the race Garachico 8KM race joins the FICMEC initiative and will run through the streets of the town with the lights off
