This Sunday, 10th May 2015, the X Ruta de la Miel de Arico (10th Honey Walk) takes place in Arico on the south east of Tenerife.

In collaboration with beekeepers from across the island, Arico shows off it's mountainous landscapes where this traditional activity is part of it's natural and cultural heritage. Honey has been a part of the diet of ariqueros and canarios in general since ancient times and every year hundreds of visitors participate in this walk that combines nature, culture and sweetens the palate.

The FREE guided walk starts from the former cinema of La Degollada in Arico Viejo at 08:30 hrs. The route covers around 9.5 kms, with a change in level of between 400 to 900 meters above sea level. It's described as being of very high difficulty. Only over 16s permitted.

Inscription is open until 8th May and you can download the necessary forms - you'll need to understand Spanish - from here.

Unlike so many journalists writing about the resorts, Pamela has not only actually been to Tenerife, she lived on the island for 16 years, for the majority of that time in a rural valley immersed in the local culture in a way that few outsiders have been privileged to do and gaining a wealth of knowledge about the island, its people, their customs, fiestas and celebrations that she is now able to share via this site. Fluent in Spanish, she also translated and reported for the various English-language newspapers.
