A Typical Saturday Night in North Tenerife

... it’s a crystal clear night. So clear we can see Mount Teide and the cumbre even though it’s after midnight. As we look up the hill toward the island’s spine we hear Latino music from another fiesta in La Orotava. Then the sky lights up with explosions of colour as the town up the hill throws a small firework display (commonplace around the Orotava Valley at this time of year).

It’s a fitting end to a special Saturday night. Special, but not uncommon.

A typical Saturday night in the north is that there’s no such a thing as a typical Saturday night.

A Typical Saturday Night in North Tenerife

Unlike so many journalists writing about the resorts, Pamela has not only actually been to Tenerife, she lived on the island for 16 years, for the majority of that time in a rural valley immersed in the local culture in a way that few outsiders have been privileged to do and gaining a wealth of knowledge about the island, its people, their customs, fiestas and celebrations that she is now able to share via this site. Fluent in Spanish, she also translated and reported for the various English-language newspapers.
