Arona beaches return to priority concern under new mayor

New mayor Mena has already made his presence felt by banning two-wheeled electric scooters and bikes from promenades and pedestrian areas, a situation that was giving rise to numerous daily complaints, and now he is turning his attention to another – the lifeguards. Mena has announced that after three years under the old regime where there was no firm contract for lifeguard services on the Arona coastline, the council considers it essential to recover the prestige of its beaches, and of course, it’s blue flags.

Unlike so many journalists writing about the resorts, Pamela has not only actually been to Tenerife, she lived on the island for 16 years, for the majority of that time in a rural valley immersed in the local culture in a way that few outsiders have been privileged to do and gaining a wealth of knowledge about the island, its people, their customs, fiestas and celebrations that she is now able to share via this site. Fluent in Spanish, she also translated and reported for the various English-language newspapers.
