Adeje Ayuntamiento to participate in Remembrance Day this Sunday

Adeje will play an official part in Remembrance Day events this coming Sunday, 8 November, with deputy mayor Amada Trujillo Bencomo attending the service in Callao Salvaje Community Church in Sueño Azul.  The event will start a few minutes before 11am when people are asked to be in place to participate in the two-minute silence, which is marked throughout the British Commonwealth at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in memory of the minute the guns of Europe fell silent in 1918. This year the ceremony records a particular anniversary – 70 years since the end of WWII in 1945. As well as being recognized by Adeje’s deputy mayor, the Callao Salvaje service will be attended by British vice-consul Helen Keating as well as other representatives of the British community in South Tenerife.

Unlike so many journalists writing about the resorts, Pamela has not only actually been to Tenerife, she lived on the island for 16 years, for the majority of that time in a rural valley immersed in the local culture in a way that few outsiders have been privileged to do and gaining a wealth of knowledge about the island, its people, their customs, fiestas and celebrations that she is now able to share via this site. Fluent in Spanish, she also translated and reported for the various English-language newspapers.
