Something for the weekend: International Music Festival of the Canary Islands

From today, January 8th until February 12th 2016 the whole Archipelago celebrates the 32nd International Music Festival of the Canary Islands. A total of forty-five concerts make up one of the most important classical music festivals in Spain. Many of the concerts take place at the Auditorio de Tenerife Adán Martín in Santa Cruz. The first is this Sunday, with the London Philharmonic Orchestra performing Mahler and Rachmaninov. The full programme can be seen on the festival’s website.

If classical music ain't your thing, then Garachico are holding a Día de la Bicicleta Garachiquense (Bike Day) on Sunday, January 10th; in El Sauzal, until January 24th, there's an exhibition entitled Los volcanes salen a la calle (Volcanoes Go Out) by the The Volcanology Institute of Canarias and in the Plaza del Cristo in La Laguna, there's El Parque Jurásico, which probably needs no translation and is described as "the largest exhibition of dinosaurs in Europe", a traveling exhibition that has traveled more than a dozen European countries (Germany, France, Italy, United Kingdom, Norway, Poland and Romania, among others) with around 20 life-sized models, some animatronic, which simulate the appearance and behavior of dinosaurs.
