Feeling At Home In El Puertito and other stories in Tenerife this week

Boats in El Puertito

Feeling At Home In El Puertito
Here’s a confession, I’ve never been to El Puertito before, I’ve been in the sea from a boat in the cove of this Adeje beauty spot but not ashore. It was high time to put that right so I caught the Titsa bus to La Caleta to walk along the coast.

New Open Air Cinema in South Tenerife
As from 22 April, the newly opened Open Air Cinema Tenerife in the Costa Adeje will be showing films outdoors … and headsets will allow the audience to listen in a range of languages including English.

Guia de Isora ayuntamiento evacuates and cordons off Alcalá building
I suspect there will be a few more of these now. Guía de Isora ayuntamiento has ordered the evacuation and closure of the three-storey bar-restaurant El Obrero, in Avda Los Pescadores, the main road through Alcalá, after cracks which had appeared in the facade were deemed to be potentially dangerous. The three families who resided in the building have been relocated, and works will start to investigate the structural integrity of the building on Monday.

Minute’s silences this lunchtime throughout Tenerife in respect of those who died in the building collapse
A large crowd turned out this lunchtime to pay their respects with a minute’s silence outside Los Cristianos Cultural Centre. The families of the victims were there, with members of the rescue operation, security and emergency teams, as well as the council itself, and three mayors from southern municipalities … and that’s without counting the very many individual members of the public who wanted to express their shock, grief and solidarity.

Our Ten Favourite Tenerife Hotel Rooms
These are those hotel rooms (in no particular order) that have offered something different, some kind of wow feature which has made them lodge themselves in our memories as favourites.

Unlike so many journalists writing about the resorts, Pamela has not only actually been to Tenerife, she lived on the island for 16 years, for the majority of that time in a rural valley immersed in the local culture in a way that few outsiders have been privileged to do and gaining a wealth of knowledge about the island, its people, their customs, fiestas and celebrations that she is now able to share via this site. Fluent in Spanish, she also translated and reported for the various English-language newspapers.
