El sueño de una noche de verano (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) in Adeje to mark Shakespeare 400 anniversary
It’s the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare, and apart from Adeje council celebrating the bard during April’s Ferio de Libro, the Adeje Municipal Theatre Group are staging a performance this Friday, 8 July, of El sueño de una noche de verano (A Midsummer Night’s Dream). The performance starts at 8.30 in the Cultural Centre auditorium (where the recent Brexit info event was held), and entrance is free. Please note that it will be performed in Spanish.

All Ship Shape On The Danmark In Santa Cruz
I was scared to stand still in case I was oiled, polished, varnished, knotted, or stowed away in a locker. They’re a hard working and cheerful bunch aboard the Danmark training ship. This was a few days port call in Santa Cruz for the triple mast sailing vessel, on a 9,000 mile voyage from Denmark to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil but there was no slacking for the 80 young trainees.

Taking a Break on Tenerife
It’s the beginning of July and the start of the Spanish holiday season. Lots of islanders will be taking a break. A few years ago I read a statistic which stated at least 33% of Canarios spent their holidays on a Canary Island. One hot September day we got talking to a man outside a bar in a remote part of Anaga (a place which is remote enough in itself). He was from La Gomera and chose to spend his visits in the one area of Tenerife which is not unlike the island he lived on. It was a home from home for him.

Sansofé 2016 in El Médano and Los Abrigos
Granadilla has unveiled Sansofé 2016, the summer schedule of cultural and leisure events in July and August in El Médano and Los Abrigos. It’s the 23rd time the event has been held, and as always, will include entertainments for residents and visitors alike from a wide programme of music, workshops, concerts, cinema, theatre, sports and games, and arts and crafts, all of which are free and held in the open.
Unlike so many journalists writing about the resorts, Pamela has not only actually been to Tenerife, she lived on the island for 16 years, for the majority of that time in a rural valley immersed in the local culture in a way that few outsiders have been privileged to do and gaining a wealth of knowledge about the island, its people, their customs, fiestas and celebrations that she is now able to share via this site. Fluent in Spanish, she also translated and reported for the various English-language newspapers.
