Tenerife Carnival Kicks Off On Friday, 12 January 2018

The Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in 2018 will start on Friday, January 12, with the inaugural act being the presentation of the candidates for Carnival Queen, just six days after Los Reyes (Three Kings Day).

In 2018, the children's murgas contest will be held on January 17, 18 and January 19; carnival groupings, 20th; adult murgas, 22, 23, 24 and 27; Children's Gala, the 28th; Gala of the Elderly, 31st; comparsas, on February 3; Rondallas, 4th; Gala Election of the Carnival Queen, 7th; Cabalgata, 9th; Coso, 13th; and Daytime Carnivals, February 11 and 17.

Unlike so many journalists writing about the resorts, Pamela has not only actually been to Tenerife, she lived on the island for 16 years, for the majority of that time in a rural valley immersed in the local culture in a way that few outsiders have been privileged to do and gaining a wealth of knowledge about the island, its people, their customs, fiestas and celebrations that she is now able to share via this site. Fluent in Spanish, she also translated and reported for the various English-language newspapers.
