This Christmas in Tenerife visit the fascinating nativity displays

A scene from a Belén a Christmas tradition in Tenerife.

In the run up to Christmas in Tenerife, make some time to visit some of the holy model villages known as a belén, which is the Spanish name for Bethlehem, even though, much of the time Jesus, Mary and the rest of the holy family will have been transported to a local area of the Canary Islands. Full marks for making it relevant, I suppose. There are private ones and routes of them to go around and there are ones in every town hall, many public buildings, as well as shopping malls and stores. Some are model sized, such as this one modelling the Plaza de la Constitución in La Orotava. Others are life sized, as is this one constructed each year in the square in front of the town hall in La Orotava.
