Every Traditional Fiesta in Tenerife
![]() |
Fiestas de Mayo in the capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife |
We've already covered Tenerife Carnival Dates, Easter Week Events, dates for the Corpus Christi Carpets in La Orotava, the Romerías, as well as Public Holidays and Municipal Holidays the dates of which give clues to the main fiestas that are celebrated in each district, but more events are included in the pages below.
This list covers various, mostly regular, events that happen in Tenerife, or, at least, the largest and most spectacular that offer you a great day or night (or both) out. Hopefully, these give you a chance to see something of the real Tenerife that you wouldn't have experienced in a resort and that you certainly won't find in the usual holiday brochures and guides either. Due to the climate, these events take place in the streets and open air and as such there is no entrance fee - they are free to attend and everyone is welcome.
Fiestas in Tenerife and the Canary Islands come in two varieties: winter and summer.
Winter festivals include everything in the Christmas season, plus the Carnival (which itself was renamed under the disguise of "Winter Festival" when Carnival was prohibited in the time of Franco). Summer ones include Corpus Cristi and the vast array of traditional folk festivals (Romerias) and fiestas to honour saints in every town and village and, which despite the seasonal categorisation, start taking place almost as soon as Christmas is over and run right through to the end of October.
Some events, such as annual celebrations for the Fiestas de la Cruz, San Juan, or the Three Kings parade on January 5th, plus Christmas & New Year, of course, are held on set, numbered, dates every year, irrespective of what day of the week they fall on.
There are countless others which revolve around the "moveable feasts" of the Catholic church's calendar, like Easter, for example, which then allows us to work backwards to the dates for lent and for the Carnival. And there are others, like Corpus Cristi, where the main events to be seen occur so many days before or after the "religious" dates.
Many others are fiestas that pay homage to a particular saint, who's day is on a fixed date, but the celebrations are held in different places on different weekends near to the date, worked out by a complicated formula, such as 'the second Saturday, after the third Sunday, provided the wind is blowing from the east.' We may not always have advance warning of those. We're not sure even organisers always get the formula right!
The main fiestas each month are included in the following pages: January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December.
Have we covered every single traditional fiesta in Tenerife? We still doubt it! We suspect that nobody really knows everything about all of them, nevertheless, we're having a good go at collating as much information on them as is humanly possible. Work is still very much in progress as we cross check all of the information and add any details we find, but here's what we have so far on fiestas in all thirty-one municipalities in Tenerife:

Pascua Florida in Guía de Isora 2018
The Pascua Florida 2018 in Guía de Isora takes place during Semana Santa (Holy Week) and this year is the 10th anniversary of the event. Considered unique in Spain, the number of floral artists taking part and creating works of art based on scenes from La Pasión (The Passion) has increased. This year also, there will be music and dance, as well as involvement by the local shops and businesses in the town.
The exhibition of floral art is on from 29 March to 1 April 2018.

Flying Over The Canaries: San José de Los Llanos to Puerto Santiago
Monday, 19 March 2018 - every year on March 19 - is Día del Padre (Father's Day) in Spain and the Canary Islands in honour of the father of Jesus, San José (Saint Joseph).
So here's another wonderful video from the series VOLANDO SOBRE CANARIAS (Flying Over The Canaries), from San José de Los Llanos (see what I did there?) in the municipality de El Tanque down to Puerto Santiago in the municipality of Santiago del Teide in Tenerife, passing Erjos, Valle de Arriba, Santiago del Teide and Tamaimo to Puerto Santiago.
It's also quite amazing to see the Autopista TF-1 extension to Santiago del Teide (a.k.a. Santiago del Teide Ring Road) from this perspective, which was heralded as that, "from a technical point of view is one of the most ambitious in the whole of Spain." Yes, I know it could be a bit sad to find a road exciting, but somebody's dad is going to love it! :)

Santa Cruz wears green for an Irish festival
The city celebrates St. Patrick's Day as an international act of homage to the historic Irish colony. The Rambla de Santa Cruz and the municipal market are decorated with Irish flags and the characteristic shamrock. In addition, performances of traditional Irish music and gastronomic tastings are programmed where the best beer will not be forgotten.Santa Cruz de Tenerife se viste de verde en la fiesta irlandesa más internacional
