Weather Forecast for Santa Cruz Carnival

Santa Cruz, Plaza de España

Everybody knows that it will rain at some point during carnival week in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, however in the more than 25 years that I've been following the event, only once in my recollection (in 2006) was there weather bad enough to cancel any of the events and that was mostly because of the high winds that would have made managing carnival costumes dangerous. To my logic (OK wishful thinking), the fact that Easter and thus Carnival is late this year and pushes the events into March, should make it all the more likely that the weather gods will smile on us. So, what sort of weather can we expect for Santa Cruz Carnival this year? It looks like that rain will be light and will get in early.

According to the Met Office the forecast for the next few days in Santa Cruz is:

  • Friday 1 March - 22C Partly cloudy changing to sunny intervals by late morning.
  • Saturday 2 March - 22C Light rain (most of that before 6 am) changing to cloudy in the afternoon.
  • Monday 3 March - 22C Partly cloudy changing to sunny intervals by late morning.
  • Monday 4 March - 23C Partly cloudy changing to sunny intervals by late morning.
  • Tuesday 5 March - 23C Partly cloudy changing to sunny by late morning.

The BBC forecast for Santa Cruz de Tenerife for the same period suggests mostly sunny intervals and a light breeze (that last item is key) for all of those days and beyond.

Longer range than that becomes much less accurate, but fingers crossed!
