Summary of Santa Cruz Carnival 2018
As Carnival 2019 is about to take to the streets tonight, take a look back at this summary of the carnival street parties, including footage from the Burial of the Sardine, from last year. This is what awaits. Watch out for Su Santidad El Papa Arrugada (His Holiness the Wrinkled Pope. A play on words. La papa = the potato. El Papa = The Pope.)
Not sure I agree that Santa Cruz Carnival is the second best in the world. It is certainly the second biggest, after Rio. I am, of course, biased, but I think Santa Cruz is the best, based on how accessible and participatory it is, where other carnivals tend more to be something us common members of the hoi polloi can only watch, but not just join in with.
If you've never been to carnival in Tenerife, you don't know what you've been missing - well now you will if you've watched the video - but it's not the same as experiencing it.
