Public Holidays in Tenerife 2020

Get ready to plan!

The Canarian Government has approved the calendar of public holidays for 2020:
  • 1 January (Año Nuevo/New Year)
  • 6 January (Epifanía del Señor/Epihany)
  • 9 April (Jueves Santo/Holy Thursday)
  • 10 April (Viernes Santo/Good Friday)
  • 1 May (Fiesta del Trabajo/Workers’ Day)
  • 30 May (Día de Canarias/Canaries Day)
  • 15 August (Asunción de la Virgen/Assumption)
  • 7 September (Bajada de la Virgen del Socorro)
  • 12 October (Fiesta Nacional de España/Spain Day)
  • 7 December (Día de la Constitución Española/Constitution Day) - Monday in lieu as 6 December falls on a Sunday.
  • 8 December (Inmaculada Concepción/Immaculate Conception)
  • 25 December (Natividad del Señor/Christmas Day)
As November 1, Todos los Santos (All Saints), falls on a Sunday in 2020, this has been replaced with May 30, Canary Islands Day.

Also, as the usual Tenerife specific holiday, for the Virgen de la Candelaria (Candlemass) on February 2 also falls on a Sunday in 2020, 7 September for the Bajada de la Virgen del Socorro has been substituted.

There’s a legal right to days off on public holidays in Spain (there's no such right in Britain), however, the official working week in Spain consists of 6 days, Monday to Saturday, inclusive. To make up the 14 days public holidays decreed by law, two additional days are added, specific to each municipal council area.
