Santa Cruz de Tenerife celebrates Navilunio

Navilunio

Film music and urban dance are some of the highlights in half a dozen stages around the city, in addition to a Santa Dash in support of the Lollipop Club

Navilunio (The name appears to be a portmanteau of Navidad as in Christmas and Lunio as in lunar as in moon) is a festival taking place in the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife tomorrow, Saturday 28 December 2019, between 11 am and midnight. It is partly in replacement of the Plenilunio festival that was cancelled in October, due to rain.

The initiative will offer a wide range of cultural activities, for all audiences, focused on music, dance and theater and to which several museums have joined. All the programming, which can be consulted on the website www.navilunio.com, will have, as main locations; the Plaza de La Candelaria, Parque Bulevar, Plaza San Francisco, Museo Histórico Militar de Canarias (Military History Museum of the Canary Islands), Mercado Nuestra Señora de África (Market), Casa del Carnaval (Carnival Museum), Museo de la Naturaleza y la Arqueología (Museum of Nature and Archeology) (MUNA), and will be complemented by a Santa Dash. Activities in the street and in those more than half a dozen locations, which will take place between 11 am and midnight.

In this first edition of Navilunio there will be musical and dance performances on the stage of the Plaza de la Candelaria from different academies. In that same location, a band composed of five musicians and three voices will perform, Fimucité, Songs of Our Cinema.

The Military Historical Museum of the Canary Islands (Almeyda Museum) can be visited between 10 am and 3 pm. In the central courtyard a medieval market will be installed with a royal page to collect toys for the NGO Canrisas Canarias (Charity).

The tram will increase its frequency between 12.00 and 20.00 on line 1 to every eight minutes, while the bus company, TITSA, will also increase its services, which can be found at www.titsa.com. The Interchange car park will cost 0.75 euros per hour. The Mencey car park and the one in the Plaza de España will have special offers for that day. And on the esplanade of the port free parking will be enabled from 9 am to 9 pm.

Santa Dash

Another of the highlights of Navilunio is the celebration of the first edition of the Santa Christmas Race, with part of its proceeds going to the El Club de la Piruleta (Lollipop Club) inclusive sport project. During the race, traffic will be disrupted, with parking on the Avenida Marítima prohibited from 6 am and from 2:00 pm along the route.
