Nativity scenes that can be visited in Tenerife

Part of the life-sized nativity in La Orotava

The the traditional nativity scenes of La Orotava, Icod, Santa Cruz and the Island Council

The month began with the inauguration of the Nativity of the Cabildo de Tenerife, but in addition to this traditional nativity scene, people in Tenerife can seek out the Christmas spirit by visiting the representations that are open to the public in different parts of the island, such as those of Icod de los Vinos, La Orotava or the capital's Town Hall. Of course, always under the capacity and sanitary measures established to control the COVID-19 pandemic.

In this particular route through the nativity scenes of Tenerife, you should not miss the manger that the Cabildo de Tenerife (Tenerife Island Corporation) Plaza de España, s/n, 38003 Santa Cruz de Tenerife exhibits every year, on display until January 6.

The Child Jesus, the Virgin and Saint Joseph, the mule and the ox, as well as the Three Wise Men from the East and many other characters are also present in the La Orotava Nativity Scene, (Plaza del Ayuntamiento, S/N, 38300 La Orotava) which with its life-size figures has the honor of being one one of the largest in Spain. In addition, the town has organised its own Ruta de Belenes with no less than 32 to visit in the town.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council hosts its traditional Nativity Scene until January 8, as every year, on the steps that give access to the headquarters of the Municipal Palace, located at Calle Viera y Clavijo, 46, 38004 Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Those who wish to visit may do so on all working days, between 8:30 am and 8:00 pm. And take the opportunity to contemplate the traditional Christmas tree located next to the Nativity Scene.

Until January 7, the Nativity Scene of La Casa de las Semillas, Av. 25 de Abril, 5, 38430 Icod de los Vinos, will be open to visitors. A work by Tenerife artist Santi González Arbelo, this year entitled El Belén de la Esperanza (The Bethlehem of Hope). In this representation, even the Three Wise Men wear masks to protect themselves against COVID-19.

To finish this route through the mangers of the island, we jump to the Centro Comercial Nivaria Nivaria Shopping Center (Av. Tres de Mayo, 63, 38003 Santa Cruz de Tenerife). There, HiperDino dedicates its traditional Nativity Scene to the island of Fuerteventura, with proceeds from the visitors going to Mensajeros de la Paz (Messengers of Peace).

There are many many more and we'll add them as we come across them, because whether virtually, or in person, this is one Christmas activity we can still enjoy this year.
