Recycle glass to feed the needy in Granadilla

For 15 days, for every kilogram of glass waste, Ecovidrio will donate one kilo of food to the food bank. The authorized containers can be found in the Plaza de la Cultura in San Isidro and in the Plaza de Magallanes, in El Médano

The public company Sermugran (Servicios Municipales de Granadilla de Abona) and Ecovidrio, the non-profit entity in charge of managing the recycling of glass container waste in Spain, have joined this campaign for 15 days to benefit the Spanish Federation of Food Banks (Fesbal) to help the neediest families of Granada, promote the recycling of glass among citizens by transforming the glass collected in the authorized containers into food: For every kilogram of glass, Ecovidrio will donate one kilo of food to the food bank.

The president of Sermugran, Marcos González, explains that the initiative aims to challenge the population to deposit as much glass as possible into the containers - marked with the KILO X KILO logo of the campaign - in the Plaza de la Cultura in San Isidro and in Plaza Magallanes, in El Médano. Last year, the people of Granada recycled 763 tons of glass, equivalent to 15.2 kilograms per inhabitant.
