Carnival Opening Parade in Santa Cruz

Carnival Opening Parade 2020

A parade of 14 floats, 24 decorated vehicles, the Carnival Queen and her court of four Maids of Honour and more than 70 carnival groups made it's way along the main streets of the capital of Tenerife for the Carnival Opening Parade in 2020, in a festive atmosphere that lasted over four hours and had a large participation from the public.

And tonight, Friday 12 February 2021, Santa Cruz should have done it all over again. This year, of course, because of the COVID pandemic, carnival will not be taking place and instead, virtual carnival events will take place between 17 February and 7 March

Today, we bring you coverage of this event from last year. This is one in a series of posts that aim to keep the spirit of carnival alive. Or keep the flame burning, so the torch can be passed to the next carnival, whenever we can get back to gathering normally.
