Rhythm & Harmony Comparsas

Bahía Bahitiare at the Rhythm & Harmony Comparsas in 2020

Part show, part parade and part contest, tonight, Saturday 13 February 2021, should have been the night of the colourful and animated Comparsas Rhythm and Harmony Contest held, usually, in the open air along the Avenida de Anaga in the capital of Tenerife. Comparsa Los Cariocas won the first prize in the Rhythm and Harmony contest - they also won the Comparsas Contest the week before - in 2020. In addition, the formation from Valleseco also obtained, unanimously, the award for best standard. In Interpretation, Los Joroperos were second and Tropicana, third. Bahía Bahitiare got highly commended.

This year, of course, because of the COVID pandemic, carnival will not be taking place and instead, virtual carnival events will take place between 17 February and 7 March, with 'La Noche de las Comparsas' (The Night of the Comparsas), broadcast on 6 March

Rhythm & Harmony Comparsas 2020

Last year the organisers changed the direction of the parade just for the Rhthym and Harmony Contest and the result, with the emblematic public buildings around the Plaza de España in Santa Cruz lit up against the night sky as a backdrop, I think was a good call.
