Senior Carnival Queens 2016-2020

Senior Carnival Queens in Santa Cruz de Tenerife 2016-2020

The Election of the Senior Carnival Queen should have taken place today, Wednesday 3 February 2021, but, of course, because of the COVID pandemic, carnival will not be taking place. It has been announced that Guardians of the Sceptre until Carnival 2022 will be chosen from among 12 adult, three junior and five senior queens. This year virtual carnival events take place between 17 February and 7 March, culminating in a television gala, ‘Santa Cruz, Corazón del Carnaval’ (Santa Cruz, Heart of Carnival).

Three of the following, highlighted, will participate in the gala, along with Águeda Méndez Montesdeoca from 2014 and Rosenda Campos from 2015:

  • 2020 - Consuelo Pérez Arbelo (bottom right) in a costume is entitled Sonora de Amor (Soundtrack of Love), designed by Alexis Santana and sponsored by the shopkeepers of the Zona Comercial Abierta de Santa Úrsula.
  • 2019 - Antonia Garrido Francés (bottom left) in a costume entitled "Soy Fortuna" (I'm Fortuna), designed by Antonio Santos Arteaga, representing Bingo Canarias and Bingo Ciudad Laguna.
  • 2018 - Marta Morales Paz (bottom centre) in the fantasy ‘Diosa Nivaria’ (Goddess Nivaria), the work of Cristian Santana, representing the City Council of Güímar, Tic Tac Talleres and Pirotécnica La Candelaria.
  • 2017 - Juana María Dorta Martín (top left) with a costume entitled, "Carina", the work of Borja Abreu, the winner represents Ferretería Las Chafiras and Doña Complementos.
  • 2016 - María Cañadas González (top right), with a costume entitled, Dos gardenias (Two gardenias), designed by Miguel Cañadas and representing Tercera Edad Corazón de Jesús de García Escámez y Velázquez Peluqueros.

Instead, we bring you coverage of this event from last year. This is one in a series of posts that aim to keep the spirit of carnival alive. Or keep the flame burning, so the torch can be passed to the next carnival, whenever we can get back to gathering normally.
