PFAE Safe Tourism

The PFAE-Gj Turismo Seguro Puerto de la Cruz 2020 (PFAE-GJ Safe Tourism Puerto de la Cruz 2020) project is developing various free interpretive routes to publicize the value of the history, culture, gastronomy, and commerce in the municipality of Puerto de la Cruz.

The CulturArte route, which has been developed since July, starts from the Castillo San Felipe and runs through the heart of La Ranilla district, with various stops, to discover its history, culture and street art through its murals. “We highlight various anecdotes and symbols, customs and traditions of the neighbourhood, its people and the importance in the municipality throughout history,” stated councillor and head of Culture, Marco González.

The routes are being adapted to an audio guide format, in Spanish and English, and to a virtual format. They are also adapted and targeted to the group to which they are directed, being able to be of benefit to all, from kids to the elderly.

Is a project that began last March as a Training Program in Alternation with Employment through which 15 young people complement their learning to obtain the Level 3 professional certificate in Local Tourism Promotion and Visitor Information that enables them in the profession of tourist informants and / or promoters. "During these months, more than 2,500 people have been attended at the information points and the route has been made for some 170 people from different groups," said Councillor for Employment María Jesús Hernández

The program, which lasts for nine months, contemplates the theoretical-practical training of this group of young people for 1,315 hours and they receive a training and apprenticeship contract. It is a public employment and training program for young unemployed people without specific training in a profession. The initiative is co-financed by the European Social Fund and the Canarian Employment Service, within the framework of the National Youth Guarantee System of the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, and is executed by the Puerto de la Cruz City Council.

In addition, the students offer information on the resources, services and tourist products of the municipality, while they are in charge of informing residents, visitors and tourists about the program of celebrations, events and the activities that are going to take place from now until the end of the year. These actions are carried out in the areas of Playa Jardín, Castillo San Felipe, San Telmo, Calle Quintana, Lago Martiánez, La Paz and the C.I.T.
