La Laguna's Christmas Lights 2021

Mayor of La Laguna at the lights' switch on. Ayuntamiento La Laguna

This year, La Laguna turned on its Christmas lights in a gradual and decentralized way to avoid crowds. For the second consecutive year, the festivities will be marked by the limitations of the health crisis, but the City Council, through the Department of Municipal Services, designed a safe alternative to start the celebration.

The final part to be switched on, on Friday 27 Nov, is where a greatest number of people traditionally congregate: next to the Casa de los Capitanes, in the La Concepción tower and in the Plaza del Cristo. For this occasion, the mayor explained that the decorative motifs, some of them interactive and up to 20 meters high, have been extended "to more neighbourhoods and towns, in response to requests." In total, 2,800 ornamental elements have been distributed (500 more than last Christmas), which will lead to an energy expenditure of 5,000 euros "thanks to the use of state-of-the-art LED technology”.

Among the novelties are "words of optimism" placed in Obispo Rey Redondo street, the eight-meter ball installed in the Plaza de La Catedral and the interactive tree in Plaza del Cristo. This video takes you on a walk around some of La Laguna's Christmas lights:
