Ten Commandments for a Safe Christmas

The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has come up with the following Decalogue (Ten Commandments) or recommendations for social and family gatherings to provide the greatest possible security and to help avoid the possibility of transmission of COVID-19, especially during the celebrations of the Christmas holidays, especially for possible reunions between family members who don't live together.
  1. It's advisable to avoid meetings between people who do not live together.
  2. If they are held, celebrate them outdoors or in well-ventilated areas, avoiding closed spaces.
  3. Keep the capacity as low as possible; avoid contact between people from different “coexistence groups” or “bubble groups”.
  4. If any invitees have symptoms, they should not attend the celebration. They must isolate themselves and call the 900 112 061 - the coronavirus line in the Canary Islands.
  5. If a guest is a close contact of a case, they should not attend the celebration.
  6. An additional measure is to obtain a negative diagnostic test just before attending the gathering. A negative result is not a substitute for the other measures.
  7. Maintain a safe distance at all times, including at the table during lunch or dinner, between non-cohabitating people.
  8. Wear a well-fitting mask for as long as possible and only remove it when eating and drinking.
  9. Promote proper hygiene (hand hygiene, do not share glasses or utensils ...)
  10. Reduce time at the table to reduce the risk of transmission.
Preventive measures for this Christmas

The Ministry of Health recalls that a series of restrictive measures are currently in force to stop the increase of coronavirus infections during the Christmas holidays.

Thus, in private gatherings on 24 and 25 December, in islands in levels 2 and 3 (Tenerife is at level 3), the maximum is 10 people, which may not be exceeded, except cohabitants, with the recommendation that all of the guests are fully vaccinated. For gatherings in public and hospitality spaces the limit is 8 and 6 people at levels 2 and 3, respectively.
