Tenerife Bluetrail 2022 has already exceeded 1,200 registrations in just one month

Tenerife Bluetrail 2022

The Tenerife Bluetrail 2022, the highest mountain race in Spain, has already exceeded 1,200 in just over a month since registration opened, which this year has the backing of the Ultra Trail de Mont Blanc (UTMB), the most prestigious event in the world of the specialty.

The next edition of the race, which will take place from June 2 to 5, will have a maximum of 2,900 runners, but the limitation of participants who cross the Teide National Park is maintained to respect the territory and the quality of the race. Given the success of the Trail Relay and Vertical modalities, this year the available places have increased, which go to 100 couples and 200 runners, respectively. The Ultra version will have 500 participants, just like the Trail, while the Half and Marathon will have 700 places each.

The island councillor for Sports, Concepción Rivero, points out that so far 19% of the people who have already formalized their registration for the race are women, "a percentage that confirms the increased interest of athletes in this event and that already exceeds the figure of 17.5% of women who participated in the last edition of the Tenerife Bluetrail”.

As for the ages of the participants, so far the ranking is headed by runners between 45 and 49 years old, followed by those between 40-44 and those over 50. The average age of the participants is 43 years.

Concepción Rivero also recalls the novelties planned for the race, "which this year launches new routes and schedules, in addition to the start of the marathon run for the first time from the Basilica of Candelaria or the prominence of the long-distance trail GR 131, where approximately 46 kilometers of the test will run. In addition, the Tenerife Bluetrail 2022 will incorporate a new finish through the Martiánez tunnel at its entrance in Puerto de la Cruz after avoiding the beaches of El Ancón, Los Patos and El Bollullo until the finish line, which will once again be located in Lago Martiánez of the tourist city.

The Tenerife Bluetrail, organized by the Cabildo through Ideco, will pass through the municipalities of Candelaria, La Matanza, La Victoria and Santa Úrsula for the first time, where the race will cross the so-called Los Sanguinos forest, a place of great beauty and ecological value, unique in the Canary Islands for some tree species characteristic of the laurel forest that have been grouped in this area forming a peculiar and unusual forest. Adeje, Vilaflor, La Orotava, Granadilla and Puerto de la Cruz complete the list of municipalities that will host the 2022 edition.

There will also be news in the vertical night race, which will be held this year between Barranco Hondo and Las Lagunetas until completing a 5.25-kilometre route with a drop of 990 meters.

The Tenerife Bluetrail will have seven modalities this year: the Ultra, 104 kilometres; the Trail, with a distance of 73 kilometres, which also has a relay modality with sections of 25 and 48 kilometres; Marathon, with a total distance of 44 kilometres; Media, which runs a distance of 24 kilometres, and the Bluetrail Challenge for people with disabilities, which includes three distances of 7, 5 and 1 kilometres, in addition to the vertical night race of 5.25 kilometres to be held on June 2.
