The Spanish communities most affected by the closure of tourism in 2020 and 2021 due to covid-19 were the most touristic: Catalonia, which lost 29.1 million travellers in those two years of the pandemic; The Balearic Islands, which lost 19.3 million, and the Canary Islands, which lost 17.2 million.
Between the end of 2019 and the end of this year, the tourism sector will add losses of more than 160,000 million euros due to the impact of the COVID, which is already beginning to be left behind for national tourism, but not so for other segments such as international tourism, where full recovery will not come until 2023.
