Almeyda celebrates World Museum Day with extended hours and «Live Museum» event

Today, May 18, you can enjoy some interesting activities scheduled at the Almeyda Museum - Museo Histórico Militar de Canarias (Museum of Military History of the Canaries) in the Fuerte de Almeyda (Almeyda Fort) Calle San Isidro, 2, 38001 Santa Cruz de Tenerife - until 7:00 p.m.

In addition, the Canary Islands Command Headquarters is opening the doors of the Palacio de la Capitanía General de Canarias (Palace of the Captaincy General of the Canary Islands) - Plaza Weyler, s/n, 38003 Santa Cruz de Tenerife - on this special day to visit the Throne Room.

On May 18, International Museum Day is celebrated. The Almeyda Museum prepares for this important day, together with the Historical-Cultural Association "Gesta del 25 de Julio" (re-enactors of the Battle of Santa Cruz of 25 July 1797) - Seeing off the English in Santa Cruz - and the "RECON25" Association, a "Live Museum" event. A day where visitors can have the experience of interacting with reenactors from different eras. The opening hours of the museum will be extended until 7:00 p.m.

The General Headquarters of the Canary Islands Command has also wanted to join the celebrations of this International Museum Day in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, so that the Palacio de la Capitanía General de Canarias (Palace of the Captaincy General of the Canary Islands) in Santa Cruz de Tenerife will open its doors so citizens can visit one of its main parts, the so-called Throne Room. Opening hours will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

As every year, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) proposes a theme for this celebration, this year's theme being “The power of Museums”. Museums have the power to transform the world around us. As incomparable places of discovery, they teach us about our past and open our minds to new ideas, two essential steps in building a better future.
