Canary Islands Day Activities in Santa Cruz

The special program to celebrate the day of the Autonomous Community begins on Friday 27 and includes a diverse range of cultural, sports and leisure activities

On the occasion of the Day of the Canary Islands, the City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has organized an extensive program of activities that will take place in various parts of the city starting this Friday, May 27, and continuing until Monday, May 30, the day on which the program for the Fiestas de Mayo 2022 will conclude.

From Friday, the 27th, the Alameda del Duque de Santa Elena will host the AgroCanarias Fair that brings together a total of 46 agri-food product exhibitors and 10 gastronomy exhibitors in 4,200 m2. In addition, there will be a Market where you can buy local products and a children's area with sports and traditional Canarian games, a vegetable garden and a farm. The exhibition can be visited from noon to midnight on Saturday, on Sunday you can visit until 01:00 hours; and on the 30th until 9:00 p.m.

That same Friday, May 27 at 9:00 p.m., the rhythm & blues and hip-hop quintet from Tenerife, Soul Sanet, will take the stage at Plaza de la Candelaria to offer a concert.

On the 28th, at 9:00 p.m. it will be Braulio's turn, the singer and songwriter from Gran Canaria will offer a concert in which he will review the main successes of his long musical career, a series of musical compositions that summarize, in the form of short stories.

A day later, also at 9:00 p.m., Los Cantadores, the veteran Canarian group with more than 500 concerts to its credit, will offer a concert reviewing its extensive repertoire, in which Shaila Dúrcal will participate as a guest artist.

On May 29 and 30, the Traditional Gastronomy Fair will be held, which will bring together a total of eleven tents with a selection of foods made with kilometre zero products in the La Noria street environment. The schedule will be from 12:00 to 21:00, both days.

The main events of the Day of the Canary Islands on May 30 will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will culminate at 10:00 p.m. at the end of the traditional Los Sabandeños concert, in the Plaza de La Candelaria (free access). A fireworks display will provide the day's finale.

The the 51st Vintage Car Contest, which will meet at Parque García Sanabria at 10:00 a.m. and will conclude with a tour that will end at 1:45 p.m. on Avenida de Anaga.

At 11:00 a.m. the Animal Exhibition will begin in Campo de Castro, in which more than twenty native species from the islands will meet and which can be visited until 5:00 p.m.

Also at 11:00 am the surroundings of the Plaza del Príncipe will host the performance of various local sports disciplines such as the Juego del palo (Stick Fighting) and Canarian Wrestling, among others. This meeting will conclude at 2:00 p.m.

The Plaza de la Candelaria will host the bulk of the events, starting at 11:00 am with a concert by the Banda Unión y Paz, to continue at 12:30 pm with a varied musical program.

In the evening, the Parranda Chasnera will offer, starting at 5:00 p.m., a concert of Canarian folk music. At the end of it, and as has been traditional in recent years, it will be the turn of the humor show by Lanzarote native, Kike Pérez.

At 7:30 p.m. the delivery of the "Canary Islands-Ciudad Santa Cruz 2022 Day Awards" will begin, which on this occasion falls to the Tenerife Sports Club, in recognition of the sporting and social merits achieved over a long history, which this year marks the 100th anniversary.

The finishing touch will be Los Sabandeños, who will again close the celebrations of the Day of the Canary Islands with a concert that will feature notable guests such as the tenor from Santa Cruz, Celso Albelo, and the singer from Lanzarote, Almudena Hernández. 

Gastronomy will have a special date with the return of the traditional Typical Food Contest that will open its doors to the public at 2:00 p.m. in the Plaza de la Iglesia de la Concepción. After the awards ceremony at 3:00 p.m., the after-meal discussion will be enlivened by folk music performed live.

The little ones will have a day full of fun and educational activities in the Plaza de España. This activity will begin at 11:00 a.m. and will last until 8:00 p.m.
