Crosses and Fireworks in Los Realejos 2022

In Los Realejos, the famous firework "battle" between the streets of El Medio and El Sol, will be taking place as is traditional on May 3. At 10pm, there will be the Procession of the Holy Cross, during the course of which the pyrotechnic display will take place. Three hours of fireworks that make up one of the largest pyrotechnic displays in Europe, provided by Hermanos Toste and Hermanos Caballer pyrotechnics.

The fireworks will also be broadcast live from the official Facebook page of the Department of Tourism.

These fireworks are the best known event in a whole month of celebrations - with more than 70 events - in the northern Tenerife town, for which there is a full program available here (PDF) - worth seeing for itself as it is packed full of lovely designs and photos.

Mass events are resumed such as Romería, Baile de Magos (Dance in Traditional Costume), Livestock Fair, Festival of the Islands, among other events

“Los Realejos will once again be the festive municipality par excellence and after two years conditioned by the pandemic, the sky will once again show off its greatest splendour and the devotional and traditional event will start again, recovering the most massive events of the May Festivities that began in April, and continue until the arrival of June.

In addition to the traditional fireworks and floral bouquets, nearly 300 crosses are adorned throughout the municipality and especially the more than 80 that are concentrated in just a few streets in the centre of La Cruz Santa, all of them places with special roots of the festive tradition of the Crosses and Fireworks of May on the 2nd and 3rd, which hold the title of Festival of National Tourist Interest”, recalled mayor, Adolfo González.

The religious germ of these celebrations that transcend far beyond the temple and where the true feeling and fervor is palpable, especially around the Holy Cross, fortunately this year resuming its processions. San Isidro Labrador and Santa María de la Cabeza will once again be protagonists in their name day on May 15 with the Eucharistic celebration and the Little Pilgrimage, as they will be in the mass and Romería on May 29, also declared of National Tourist Interest. The recollection day will be lived again on a new Monday of Remedies, which this year coincides with the Day of the Canary Islands, on May 30.

Also highlighted is the recovery of the Romera Mayor Election Gala (Crowning of the May Queen), which will be on Saturday, May 7, the song festival on the 8th, the Little Pilgrimage on the 15th, the Country Dance on the 21st, the Cattle Fair and Festival of the Islands on the 28th, Romería on the 29th or Monday of Remedies on May 30, among others, which will mean resuming activity in the town's squares and streets.

The Feria de Artesanía (Craft Fair) on 14 and 15 May in the Avenida de Los Remedios, Los Realejos; concerts by the Realejos Philharmonic and Cruz Santa Musical Group and the Pulso y Púa Artistic School, the Pedro Fuentes López choir, the Esteban Aliaga show dedicated to mothers, the festivals of Guayacsanta, Acorán and El Chirato, concerts by Los Sabandeños or Pieles, sporting events such as Vertical Asomadero and Asomadero Trail, La Corona Equestrian Raid or Villa de Los Realejos Karate Championship and the Security and Emergencies Day will be added to a youth party, a street exhibition on the occasion of the 4th centenary of the beautiful potato, in addition to a cycle of conferences and another of open-air cinema, or the Viera y Clavijo Circle Art Festival, an Equine Fair on Canary Islands Day or the Children's Country Dance on 31 May, to complement, among other activities, the extensive festive program, putting the finishing touch with the reissue of the multidisciplinary show to exalt the festivities 'Sentimos Mayo' on June 1.
