The Romería in honor of San Isidro Labrador and Santa María de La Cabeza in the district of Las Mercedes (San Cristóbal de La Laguna) is back after being suspended due to the pandemic for the last two years. It takes place in the afternoon of this Sunday, 29 May.

After two years, Las Mercedes resumes the festivities in honor of San Isidro and Santa María de la Cabeza. The Las Mercedes festivities in honor of San Isidro Labrador and Santa María de la Cabeza resume again with the recovery of the main popular events after two years of the pandemic. This weekend this Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th of May will centre the festive calendar with practically all of its most traditional events: the traditional romería, with people in traditional dress, flocks, parrandas (bit like wandering minstrels) and blessing of the cattle (which will take place around church square), and the first festivals organized in Las Mercedes after two years of restrictions.

This edition of the San Isidro festivities will be opened with children's workshops, this Saturday, May 28, starting at 10:30 am, in the church square. At 10:00 p.m., the fireworks display will begin. The day will end with a verbena (open air dance) enlivened by the Sonora Olympia orchestra.

On Sunday, May 29, the Big Day at 1:00 p.m., the procession will begin with the participation of local dignitaries, folk groups, dancers, residents and visitors. In this edition, its route will be shortened concentrating on the surroundings of the square. After this event, the traditional blessing of the cattle and an afternoon festival will take place, enlivened by the Guaydil and Clase Apara orchestras.
