The preparations for the Gala demonstrate the groups' desire for Carnival

Representatives of the Carnival Groups in Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Representatives of the groups that will participate in the Gala for the Election of the Carnival Queen met last week at the Guimerá Theater to prepare for the live show at the Tenerife International Centre for Trade Fairs and Congresses on June 10.

Choreographic groups, murgas, rondallas, lyrical groups, musical groups, troupes, both adults and children, giving their all to collaborate with artistic director of the Gala, Enrique Camacho. The dressing rooms bustled. Feathers, glitter, headdresses, tights, makeup and nervousness in the air. The excitement was obvious. “This Carnival makes me more excited than the previous ten. There is a lot of desire”, says Vicky, from Rondalla Las Valkirias.

The Councillor for Festivities of the Santa Cruz City Council, Alfonso Cabello, mixed with the participants. “There is a lot of enthusiasm”, he certifies. “These people are the ones who make the Carnival, and they are willing to dress up on a Thursday in May, walk to the theatre in a costume designed for other temperatures, and have a good time collaborating in these preparations. Because of these things, for us it is a privilege that they allow us to share these moments with them, and to be able to catch this enthusiasm”, he comments.

The day before, some of the elements that will be part of the grand opening of the Gala had been recorded in the streets of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, but the results of this session will remain a mystery until June 10. Until then, there are still many milestones to overcome. The first of them, on May 10, when the draw for the groups' order of participation is held at the Caja Siete headquarters in the capital. The Carnival machinery is running.
