Countdown to Tenerife Carnival 2023 begins

Bahía Bahitiare wins Rhythm and Harmony 2022
RITMO Y ARMONÍA by iLoveTheWorld

The 2022 June Carnival in Santa Cruz de Tenerife came to an end yesterday and this unusual summer Carnival said goodbye in style to the rhythm of the comparsas. Bahía Bahitiare won the Ritmo y Armonía (Rhythm and Harmony) for the first time, beating Cariocas and Tropicana, at the culmination of the historic edition of the chicharrera festival, which will return next winter.

The contest began with the Tropicana Junior comparsa, followed by the Carnival Queen and by the nine participating comparsas, interspersed by the maids of honour and other candidates for the adult queen. The first to compete were Tropicana, followed by Valleiros, Cariocas, Río Orinoco, Rumberos, Abenaura, which premiered this year at the Carnival, Danzarines Canarios, Tabajaras and Bahía Bahitiare, which closed the contest after more than two hours.

So now the countdown begins until the celebration of Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival 2023. Mayor of the city, José Manuel Bermúdez, points out that there are 213 days - that's until the Carnival Inauguration on Friday, 20 Jan 2023

Contests and galas will already be underway before the end of January.

Meanwhile, Councilor for Fiestas, Alfonso Cabello, reminds us that, "there are only 235 days left to enjoy it again", referring to the date of the first big event in the street on Friday, February 17, the Carnival Opening Parade

In the coming days, the theme of the the next edition will be put to the vote. There are three options being suggested at present: the Carnival Scenes, The World of Television and New York. Just yesterday, Sunday, the organization was working on the economic assessment of a fourth alternative to, depending on its viability, submit it to a popular vote so that party lovers decide the next Carnival.
