Tenerife in August

Brilliant Bougainvillea

Visitors to Tenerife will have seen these amazing and huge - anywhere from 1 to 12 m (3 to 40 ft.) tall - displays of Bougainvillea all over the island, but this thorny ornamental vine is actually native to South America from Brazil west to Peru and south to southern Argentina. The bright coloured parts are bracts: the actual flower of the plant is small and generally white.

Tenerife Weather in August

Tenerife features the lowest temperature 'difference' between summer and winter for anywhere in the world. The minimum and maximum annual average air temperatures in Tenerife are about 15C in winter and 25C in summer.

April Averages Tenerife UK
Daily hours of sunshine 9.8 6
Daytime temp C 25 18
Sea temperature C 22 -
Days with rain 1 13
In August, you should enjoy an average of 9.8 daily hours of sunshine in Tenerife (in contrast to an optimistic 6 hours in England).

The average daytime temperature in August in Tenerife is listed as 25 degrees centigrade. This is, of course, an average for the entire island. And, no matter where you are on the island, it is sure to be better than the English equivalent, given as a maximum of 18 degrees centigrade.

The sea temperature in Tenerife in August averages at 22C.

There's just 1 day with rain on average in Tenerife in August, but this means any amount of rain from a short sharp shower upwards. Better than the 13 days in the UK.

Tenerife Fiestas in August

The 15th August is a national public holiday for Asunción de la Virgen (Assumption).

August is a month that's packed with fiestas and romerías, but the biggest event in the month each year is the Peregrinación a Candelaria (pilgrimage) and fiestas in Candelaria, which take place on the 14th and 15th of August. The most popular part of the annual celebrations is the Ceremony of the discovery of the Virgin of Candelaria, which takes place in the Plaza outside the Basilica on 14th August from about 7:30pm.

Other major celebrations taking place this month are the Romería de San Roque in Garachico on 16th August and the Corazones de Tejina around 24th August.
