Brilliant Bougainvillea

Brilliant Bougainvillea

Visitors to Tenerife will have seen these amazing and huge - anywhere from 1 to 12 m (3 to 40 ft.) tall - displays of Bougainvillea all over the island, but this thorny ornamental vine is native to South America from Brazil west to Peru and south to southern Argentina. The bright coloured parts are bracts: the actual flower is small and generally white.
