Tenerife bus stations improve accessibility

Buenavista de Norte bus station before

The Tenerife Island Corporation improves the facilities of Buenavista de Norte bus station  and the works appear to be part of a bigger push towards accessibility and sustainability: The Cabildo de Tenerife put Buenavista del Norte bus station back into operation on Monday, January 24, after refurbishment works carried out to improve its accessibility. The station renovation project has had a budget of 450,000 euros and an execution period of six months. Vice President and Minister of Mobility, Enrique Arriaga, explains the remodelling, has made the station building more accessible, functional and sustainable.

At the reopening on Monday morning were the First Vice President and Minister of Mobility, Enrique Arriaga, together with the Mayor Buenavista, Antonio González, the Island Director of Mobility, José Alberto León, and managing director of TITSA, Raquel Martínez. Arriaga points out that “the Corporation is working to improve mobility on the island, in this case modernizing the infrastructure at the bus stations. The remodelling of Buenavista makes it a more functional, accessible and sustainable facility”. To which he adds that "the concrete used in the platform contributes to eliminate the nitrogen oxides that are generated in the combustion of the buses, reducing their carbon footprint."

The mayor of Buenavista explained that "within the Teno Rural Park, the bus has to be a preferential option for transport and having modern facilities will contribute towards this." This intervention aims to improve the service provided to users of public transport in the region and are part of the actions carried out by the Mobility area to improve all the facilities on the island. The works have made it possible to renew the exterior of the building with larger and more accessible platforms, anti-vandalism benches and ergonomic seats. In addition, a new 150-square-meter wooden canopy has been installed to provide cover for waiting passengers, equipped with low-light pollution lighting. Also, the pavement has been replaced with a new asphalt and the information posts have been renewed.

The interior of the building, which is accessed by a newly created accessible ramp, has been improved with the placement of an adapted information and card sales point, benches, high-contrast signage, an induction system for the deaf, as well as the installation of air conditioning and air renewal in the toilets.

The works have made it possible to renovate the bathrooms, creating one especially accessible and stoma friendly, as exist in other stations on the island.

In 2021, a total of 108,000 passengers used the Buenavista de Norte bus station, with an average of 300 per day. Five routes provide services at this station: 355 to Masca and Santiago del Teide, which makes eight daily departures; 363, destination Icod – Los Realejos – Puerto de la Cruz, with 34 exits; 365, destination Masca, which offers five departures; 366, destination Las Portelas, with five exits; and the 369, to Punta de Teno, making nine departures a day.

Titsa restores bus routes to Mount Teide and through the interior of the National Park

Titsa restores bus routes to Mount Teide and presents a new route in the National Park

The Minister of Mobility and President of Tenerife public bus company, Titsa, Enrique Arriaga, explains that "the company is recovering this service to provide a sustainable response to the interest that the protected area arouses"

Transportes Interurbanos de Tenerife (Titsa), a company managed by the Cabildo de Tenerife, will re-establish the routes 342 and 348, which connect the Teide National Park with Costa Adeje and Puerto de la Cruz, respectively, starting, Friday, October 8. Both routes, which had been temporarily suspended due to the low demand due to COVID-19, will begin to operate on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays with a daily route.

At the same time, the company inaugurates a new route through the interior of the Park, which will visit the most emblematic sites of this space to respond to the demand of both residents and tourists. Stops will be made at Portillo Bajo, the visitor centre, Portillo Alto, Minas de San José, Montaña Blanca, the cable car and parador (Roques de García). The Minister of Mobility and President of Titsa, Enrique Arriaga, explains that this route seeks to "reconcile the management and preservation of a protected area with the interest it arouses among tourists and visitors." Thus, a more sustainable alternative is offered both to go to the park and to be able to see all of its main attractions.

The new route, which Titsa will operate in the interior of the Park in both directions, will maintain the number 342, corresponding to the one that connects with the South, and will cost 2.10 euros each way. It will cover the area between the Portillo Bajo and the parador (Roques de García), with departures at 11:00, 12:30, 13:10 and 14:40 in the direction of the parador and at 11:20 , 12:30, 13:10 and 14:00 in the direction of the visitor centre.

Daily bus service to Punta de Teno

View of Los Gigantes Cliffs from Punta de Teno

There has been an announcement that the 369 bus service from Buenavista del Norte to Punta de Teno is now to be operated every day of the week, Monday to Sunday inclusive, on an indefinite basis. This measure has been launched after regulations, in force limiting of access to this northern enclave of Tenerife, are extended to the whole week and, which prevents access to private vehicles between 10:00 and 18:00 hours, except those authorized. Therefore, the bus is now the only means for visitors to get to Punta de Teno and it is well worth the trip for the most spectacular views from there of the Los Gigantes Cliffs.

The 369 bus will depart from the Buenavista bus station at 10:10, 11:05, 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:10, 17:05 and 18:05 hours. The return journeys from Punta de Teno depart at 10:35, 11:25, 12:25, 13:25, 14:25, 15:25, 16:35, 17:25 and 18:25. The price of the service is one euro per journey (as of 2019).

Santa Cruz Carnival On The Busses

TITSA en Carnaval

Thinking of going to the Santa Cruz Carnival in person? Then don't take the car. Apart from the fact that parking is a joke in Santa Cruz at the best of times and it is obviously safer to leave the wheels at home if you intend to imbibe a beverage or two, actually, half the fun of an outing to Carnaval can be had on the bus.

Casting my mind back to the year that, dressed as a musketeer, complete with thigh boots, cape and big hat with a feather, I passed a few enjoyable minutes engaged in a plastic sword fight on the bus with a complete stranger. :)

Every year, Tenerife bus company TITSA (no, that's NOT the Spanish branch of Trotters Independent Trading) lay on extra busses for Carnaval dates, including the famous 111 Playa de las Americas route, running right through until 4.30 a.m.

Tenerife Bus Company Running Extra Green Submarines During Deep Sea Carnival 2019

The Green Submarines of TITSA Await You!

This really is one of the biggest reasons to love Tenerife: There's a fiesta, so they put on extra pulic buses so people can actually - and safely - get out to enjoy themselves. During public holidays. Even at night.

Contrast that to the usual "No Service on Sundays and Bank Holidays" in the UK that excludes large parts of the population from social events ... /Rant over

And I like their joke - green submarines - for the deep sea carnival.

As they say, "We are prepared for the carnival immersion!"

Tenerife's public bus company, TITSA are launching a special reinforcement service for the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which will increase the number of places available to travel by bus by 262,000 and will make 2,832 additional trips between March 1 to 10. There are special services on lines 014 and 015, which connect Santa Cruz de Tenerife with La Laguna, on demand. The company has agreed to implement night schedules in 17 routes that connect Santa Cruz de Tenerife with different points of the island. This reinforcement affects route 910, which will offer two early morning trips from San Andrés, as well as several routes that connect the capital with Puerto de la Cruz, Costa Adeje, Icod, Güimar, Candelaria and Punta del Hidalgo, as well as other urban lines.

The service on several routes to the capital will be increased during the Daytime Carnival and Coso (Main Parade), especially 102, 103, 104, 108, 110, 111, 120, 906, 908, 935. In the evening hours, routes 102, 103 and 104 (Santa Cruz-Puerto de la Cruz), 110, 111 and 711 (Santa Cruz-Costa Adeje), 106 (Icod-Santa Cruz), 014 and 015 (Santa Cruz- La Laguna), 121 (Santa Cruz-Güimar and Puertito), 122 (Santa Cruz-Candelaria), 050 (La Laguna-Punta del Hidalgo), as well as the urban lines 232, 908, 910, 933, 934 and 972 .

The routes running on March 3, 5 and 9 (Daytime Carnival and Coso), will run on the normal weekday timetable, plus reinforcements.

With this programming, the TITSA company seeks to become a reliable, comfortable and safe alternative for travel from any part of the island during the celebration of Carnival, ensuring easy access to Santa Cruz.

The Intercambiador de Santa Cruz de Tenerife will remain operational 24 hours on the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 8th and 9th of March, and until 02:00 hours on Tuesday 5 and Wednesday 6 of March. The car park of the Intercambiador de La Laguna will remain operative all night of 2, 4 and 9 of March and until the 02:00 hours, the Fridays 1 and 8 of March. The car park at the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Interchange has a special rate for weekends and holidays, including the main day of carnival.

All schedules can be found on the website www.titsa.com, or on the TITSA telephone number 922.53.13.00 and through the company's social networks.
