Tenerife Fiestas in March 2016

Buenavista del Norte Carnival in 2007

March 2016 starts off with some unexpected bonus carnival events from carnivals that had to be postponed owing to the bad weather a couple of weeks ago, in particular Los Gigantes Carnival, which will now will take place on the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th of March. Also the carnival in Buenavista del Norte, the main events of which are now being held from the 3rd to the 6th of March (which we'll post more about later in the week).

Los Cristianos International Carnival runs from March 4th to the 14th.

March 19th, San José (Saint Joseph's Day) is also Father's Day in Spain and the Canary Islands. Some places celebrate this fiesta, among them El Tanque and La Guancha.

There are two public holidays in March: 24th March (Jueves Santo/Easter Thursday) and 25th March (Viernes Santo/Good Friday) as Easter falls in March this year.

There are no Municipal Public Holidays in March.
Unlike so many journalists writing about the resorts, Pamela has not only actually been to Tenerife, she lived on the island for 16 years, for the majority of that time in a rural valley immersed in the local culture in a way that few outsiders have been privileged to do and gaining a wealth of knowledge about the island, its people, their customs, fiestas and celebrations that she is now able to share via this site. Fluent in Spanish, she also translated and reported for the various English-language newspapers.
