With Easter having been early this year, April is a quiet month. There are no public holidays in April and only one Municipal holiday on 25th April for the Festivity of San Marcos Evangelista in both Icod de los Vinos and Tegueste.
There will undoubtedly be Fiestas in Icod and the Romeria of San Marcos Evangelista takes place in Tegueste on the last Sunday in April, which this year is April 24th, while the population of Almáciga in the district of Anaga will celebrate fiestas for their patron, Virgen de Begoña, during the last week of April.
The 8th Subida a El Tanque (El Tanque Hillclimb) on Saturday, 2nd April 2016, combining breath-taking views over the north Tenerife coast with adrenaline-inducing motor sport. This is how the climb looks at normal car speed. A total of 25 teams are taking part over a distance of 4.5 kilometres with the starting line located at kilometre 2 of the TF-421 road - average gradient around 6%.
On Sunday, 24th April, from 1pm, the Romería in Honour of San Marcos Evangelista (St. Mark the Evangelist) takes place in the northern Tenerife town of Tegueste. This famous pilgrimage is one of the most important in the archipelago with the participation of 23 carts (in the form of boats), the Dance of the Flowers and a large number of bands and folk dancers from Tenerife and other islands. As every year thousands are expected to flock to witness this unique example of Canarian tradition.
Also ongoing are the Fiestas de San Marcos 2016 de Icod de los Vinos and, coinciding with the 400th anniversary of the death of both Shakespeare and Cervantes on April 23, 1616, Día Internacional del Libro (World Book Day) there are various Ferias de Libros (Book Fairs) taking place.
