Located in the Los Hoteles neighborhood, the neoclassical building dates back to 1902 and was originally intended to be the Palace of Justice, although in 1904 it was already the Town Hall. Many call it "The House of the Dragos" because of the two Dracaena draco specimens either side of its main entrance.
The main events annually in the island's capital include:
- Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife the city is known internationally for it's carnival, usually in February/March and is the biggest event.
- Fiestas de Mayo: The city was founded on 3 May 1494 (Día de La Cruz). On 3 May the city is decorated with flowers, with religious processions, romerías, sports events and more.
- Fiestas del Carmen: Virgen del Carmen 16 July.
- 25 July: Santa Cruz celebrates Santiago Apóstol (patron of the city) and the defeat of Horatio Nelson who tried to invade the city in 1797.
