Romería San Roque in Garachico, Romería Barquera in Las Galletas, Arguayo Crafts Fair, La Guancha Crafts Fair 2019

The Romería in honour of San Roque in Garachico (or San Roque Pilgrimage) is one of those events which takes place on the same date each year, 16 August, irrespective of the day of the week and has done so since the 17th Century. At one o'clock in the afternoon, the municipal band, herds of livestock, street musicians and paraders journey through the streets to lead the figure of San Roque to the chapel. At the same time, the fishermen in Garachico embark on their own ocean pilgrimage, taking the saint along the coastline on their boats. This celebration has been declared a Festival of National Tourist Interest.

Tenerife bus operator, TITSA, are increasing services on their Puerto de la Cruz - Buenavista service (Route 363) between 09:30 and 23:00 for revelers to get to and from the fiesta. If the roads get blocked by traffic jams, the TF-42 road will be closed to general traffic, except for public transport vehicles and goods, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm and from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This way, travelling by bus will be the faster option.

Also on the traditional Romería schedule for this weekend are the Romería Barquera (procession on boats) in honor of San Casiano in Las Galletas

Comparsa Bahía Bahitiare

Components of Bahía Bahitiare in the Carnival Main Parade on 5 March 2019
One of my favourite components of carnival, comparsas in Santa Cruz de Tenerife are said to be similar to the Brazillian Carnival Blocks, but actually appear to have more in common with the dancing, marching and drumming Samba Schools that have a strong community basis and are traditionally associated with a particular neighborhood.

Founded in 2002 and directed by Zara Diaz Mendoza, Comparsa Bahía Bahitiare are one of the younger comparsas in Santa Cruz. The group, with their seventy components, rehearse in the Santa Cruz de Tenerife district of Tíncer.
