Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnaval of the 1980s in 2016

It's time to dig out those old legwarmers, add a pink tutu, wear a huge bow in your big blonde hair, (maybe even add a Madonna bra for extra authenticity) ... especially if you're a bloke, because "The 1980s" is going to be the theme for Santa Cruz Carnaval in 2016.

Apparently the theme, chosen by the public, marginally beat “The Caribbean”.

There's also confirmation that the 2016 Santa Cruz Carnaval is to be held between 3rd to the 14th February, so (subject to further confirmation or alteration), the order of events should follow those we already published for Tenerife Carnaval 2016.

The main events of which are:

Santa Cruz

  • Wednesday, February 3rd, 2016 - Election of the Carnaval Queen
  • Friday, February 5th, 2016 - Carnaval Opening Parade
  • Tuesday, February 9th, 2016 - Main Parade
  • Wednesday, February 10th, 2016 - Burial of the Sardine
  • Saturday, February 13th, 2016 - Daytime Carnaval
  • Sunday, February 14th, 2016 - Parade of Vintage Cars

Unlike so many journalists writing about the resorts, Pamela has not only actually been to Tenerife, she lived on the island for 16 years, for the majority of that time in a rural valley immersed in the local culture in a way that few outsiders have been privileged to do and gaining a wealth of knowledge about the island, its people, their customs, fiestas and celebrations that she is now able to share via this site. Fluent in Spanish, she also translated and reported for the various English-language newspapers.
