Carnival Queens in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in 2014, 2019 and 2008 |
In 1987 the Carnival in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, for the first time, had a theme and listed here are all of the themes and carnival queens since then. Links tell you more about that year's carnival and its queen. It is interesting to see how they've developed from what was once a dress, into the super-sized confections.
- Carnival 1987 - Roma (Rome). Carnival Queen was Mónica Raquel Estévez Martín in 'Tajaraste', designed by Leo Martínez, inspired by the typical costume of Tenerife, representing Almacenes El Kilo.
- Carnival 1988 - La Selva (The Jungle/Wild World). Carnival Queen was Laura Alberto Barroso in 'Cleopatra Reina del Nilo' (Cleopatra Queen of the Nile) designed by Leo Martínez, representing Galerias Preciados.
- Carnival 1989 - Egipto Milenario (Ancient Egypt). Carnival Queen was María Remedios Ramos Díaz in 'Chicharro Carnavalero', by José Julio Rodríguez y Juan Fajardo, representing Centro Comercial Maya.
- Carnival 1990 - El mundo de los cuentos (The World of Stories). Carnival Queen was Carmen Gloria Trujillo García in a costume entitled, "La Fenicce" (The Phoenix) designed by Justo Gutiérrez and representing Almacenes El Kilo.
- Carnival 1991 - El Espacio (Space). Carnival Queen was Isabel Luis Hernández in a costume entitled, "Al ritmo de la noche" (The Rhythm of the Night) designed by Leo Martínez and representing J&B Whisky.
- Carnival 1992 - El Cine (Cinema). Carnival Queen was Patricia Rodríguez Pérez in "Catira" (A person who has blonde hair), by José Julio Rodríguez y Juan Fajardo, representing Centro Comercial Maya.
- Carnival 1993 - El Circo (Circus). Carnival Queen was Carlota Bibiana Sosa Borges in "Pim, pam, pum... fuego" (Pim, pam, pum ... fire), by Marcos Marrero y María Díaz, for Casinos de Juego de Tenerife.
- Carnival 1994 - La Atlántida (Atlantis). Carnival Queen was Maria Candelaria Rodriguez, with "Diva", by Marcos Marrero, for Casinos de Tenerife.
- Carnival 1995 - Las Mil y Una Noches (Thousand and One Nights). Carnival Queen was María Elena Luis Luis in "Palabras Mágicas" (Magic Words), by Marcos Marrero y María Díaz, for Páginas Amarillas (Yellow Pages).
- Carnival 1996 - México (Mexico). Carnival Queen was Nayra Plasencia Jorge in "Ra", by Justo Gutiérrez and representing Almacenes El Kilo.
- Carnival 1997 - La Prehistoria (Prehistory). Carnival Queen was Soledad León Rancel in a costume entitled, "Mamut" (Mamoth) designed by Leo Martínez and representing Almacenes El Kilo.
- Carnival 1998 - La Edad Media (The Middle Ages). Carnival Queen was Natalia Castilla Bermúdez in a costume entitled, 'Miss Shaigón' (Miss Saigon) designed by Leo Martínez and representing Almacenes El Kilo.
- Carnival 1999 - El Mundo del Cómic (The World of Comics). Carnival Queen was Laura Pérez Castro in a costume entitled, "A los pies de Yalpur" (At the foot of Jaipur) designed by Vicente Vargas and representing Azul Televisión.
- Carnival 2000 - Los Piratas (Pirates). Carnival Queen was Shaila Martín Ramos (who died in 2003 at the age of 19) in a costume entitled, 'Manila Yerichana' (as seen in National Geographic) designed by Juan Carlos Armas Febles and representing Ron Santa Teresa.
- Carnival 2001 - Odisea en el Espacio (Space Odyssey). Carnival Queen was Silvia González Rodríguez in "Talismán" (Talisman), by Juan Pedro Quintero, representing Almacenes El Kilo.
- Carnival 2002 - Los Alegres Años 20 (The Roaring 20s). Carnival Queen, chosen unanimously, was Lorena Díaz García in a costume entitled, "Alta Temperatura" (High Temperature) designed by Miguel Ángel Castilla and representing Centro Comercial del Mueble.
- Carnival 2003 - El Lejano Oriente (China) (The Far East (China)). Carnival Queen was Natalia Díaz Mesa, with "Láquesis" (Lachesis), designed by Santi Castro, representing Centro Comercial Carrefour.
- Carnival 2004 - Celia Cruz (Celia Cruz). Carnival Queen was Natalia Acosta Jorge in "Miércoles de luna llena" (Full Moon Wednesday), designed by Juan Carlos Armas and representing Bingo Colombófilo.
- Carnival 2005 - Los Musicales de Hollywood (Hollywood Musicals). Carnival Queen was Ana María Pérez Meneses in a costume entitled "Rozando la piel del cielo" (Touching the skin of the sky), designed by Juan Carlos Armas and representing Centro Comercial Alcampo.
- Carnival 2006 - Los Tribus o Tribumanía (Tribes). Carnival Queen was Neólida Hernández Martín in El Carro de la Gloria (The Chariot of Glory), designed by Juan Carlos Armas and representing Grupo AC Bingo Colombófilo.
- Carnival 2007 - La Moda (Fashion). Carnival Queen was Elizabet García, in "Miss Dior", by Leo Martínez and representing El Día.
- Carnival 2008 - La Magia (Magic). Carnival Queen was Nauzet Celeste Cruz Melo in "La Edad de Oro" (The Golden Age), designed by Santi Castro and representing Santa Cruz-Carrefour Shopping Center.
- Carnival 2009 - El Cine de Terror (Horror Films). Carnival Queen was Ana María Tavárez Mata, with a costume entitled Embrujada (Bewitched), by Leo Martínez and representing newspaper El Día.
- Carnival 2010 - Tenerife, Historia de una Carnaval (Tenerife History of a Carnival). Carnival Queen was Alicia San Juan McNulty, in, "En el País de las Maravillas" (In Wonderland) - her name is Alicia (Alice) - designed by Leo Martínez for El Día.
- Carnival 2011 - Enrique González y las murgas de Canarias (Enrique González and Canarian Murgas). Carnival Queen was Naomi Cabrera Pulido, with, "Cien años de historia" (One Hundred Years of History), designed by Leo Martínez for El Día.
- Carnival 2012 - Flower Power. Los prodigiosos años 60 (Flower Power: The Prodigious 1960s). Carnival Queen was Carmen Gil González, with a costume entitled, 'Imperio' (Empire), designed by Santi Castro and representing Zona Comercial Tranvía.
- Carnival 2013 - Bollywood: La India (Bollywood India). Carnival Queen was Soraya Rodríguez Castro in "Volare" (Fly), designed by Saliarca Creativos, representing Centro Comercial Carrefour – Meridiano.
- Carnival 2014 - Los Dibujos Animados (Cartoons) Carnival Queen was Amanda Perdomo San Juan in “Poderosa Amazona” (Powerful Amazon), by Daniel Pages, representing McDonald´s & La Opinión de Tenerife.
- Carnival 2015 - El Futuro (The Future). Carnival Queen was Adtemexi Cruz Hernández with 'Áurea' (Golden), designed by Jorge González Santana and representing Fuente Alta and Tu Santa Cruz.
- Carnival 2016 - Los Años 80 (The 80s). Cecilia Navarro Arteaga was Carnival Queen with "Arena blanca del desierto" (White Desert Sand), designed by Daniel Pages, for McDonald´s & La Opinión de Tenerife.
- Carnival 2017 - El Caribe (Caribbean). Carnival Queen was Judit López García in a costume entitled, 'Madame Soleil' (Madam Sun), designed by Jorge González Santana and representing, Fuentealta.
- Carnival 2018 - La Fantasía (Fantasy). Carnival Queen Carmen Laura Lourido Pérez, with a costume entitled 'Renacida' (Reborn), designed by Jorge González and representing FuenteAlta.
- Carnival 2019 - Las Profundidades Marinas (The Deep Sea). Carnival Queen was Priscila Medina Quintero, with a costume entitled “ La Nuit” (The Night) designed by Sedomir Rodríguez de la Sierra and representing Autoinsular Citroën.
- Carnival 2020 - Los Coquetos Años 50 (The Flirty Fifties). Carnival Queen was Sara Cruz Teja in a costume entitled Sentir (Feel), designed by Sedomir Rodríguez de la Sierra, sponsored by Centro Comercial Alcampo La Laguna.
- Carnival 2021 - Carnavales del Mundo (Carnivals of the World). Due to the coronavirus pandemic, there was no carnival in the streets in 2021, only virtual and televised events. No new carnival queens elected, just Guardians of the Sceptre until carnival is celebrated again.
- Carnival 2022 - La Ciencia Ficción (Science Fiction). Due to the pandemic, Santa Cruz Carnival 2022 was held in June. Carnival Queen was Ruth González Martín, with "¡¡Mírame!!" (Look At Me), by Santi Castro, representing the Añaza Carrefour Shopping Centre.
- Carnival 2023 - Nueva York, la ciudad que nunca duerme (New York, The City That Never Sleeps). Carnival Queen was Adriana Peña Fumero, with 'Lisboa' (Lisbon), designed by Santi Castro and representing Añaza Carrefour Shopping Centre.
- Carnival 2024 - La Televisión (Television). Carnival Queen in 2024, was Corina Mrazek González, with El Mundo (The World), designed by Santi Castro (winner for the 3rd consecutive year), made using recycled materials, and representing the Añaza-Carrefour Shopping Centre.
- Carnival 2025 - Secretos de África (Secrets of Africa). Carnival Queen in 2025 was Elizabeth Victoria Ledesma Laker with a costume entitled “Conexión” (Connection), designed by Alexis Santana, and representing McDonald's and newspaper El Día-La Opinión de Tenerife.
- Carnival 2026 - Ritmos Latinos (Latin Rhythms).
